MILHAMAH BE-SHALOM: VIKUAH BEN SHENE OHAVIM YEHUDI VE-NOTSRI BE-INYENE HA-DAT

New York : A. H. Rozenberg, 1898. Item #23949

(FT) Harcover, 8vo. , 92 pages. In Hebrew. Goldman 1068: "Benjaminson authored this fictional dialogue between 'Abraham, ' a Jewish preacher, and 'peter, ' a Christian priest, to instruct Jews how to respond to Christological arguments. " Abrahamson notes in the introduction to this work: "And now I call out to you...the writers of Israel...come with me and help me in this holy war...write, publish, bring to light and vindicate our holy religion. We are all obligated by this holy responsibility, for if we are not for ourselves, then who will be for us, and if not now, then when? And who knows, maybe Divine Providence caused all this [i. E. The pogroms] to bring us here to this free land, where there is no satanic adversary, demon of destruction or devil (censor) over the press. Everyone may speak and write as he wishes concerning matters of religion...However, to our sorrow, we have become used to the barrier placed over our mouths by our enemies in all the lands of the dispersion. We have ceased to speak on matters of religion because one could never know who might take offence. Over time this custom has become second nature to us...not to respond with the truth because it was a time to be silent (and this was when we were in cursed Russia) . But now it is a time to speak (now that we are in the land of freedom) . " SUBJECT(S) : Judaism -- Apologetic works. Disputations -- Jewish-Christian. Flyleaf brittle and chipped. Ex-library.
