Isaiah - criticism, interpretations, etc. Morgenstern (1881-1977) was president of Hebrew Union College from 1921 to 1947, where he himself had been ordained in 1902, and under him the college expanded both in scope and size. This book, The Message on Deutero-Isaiah, was originally published in the Hebrew Union College Annual, which, began under Morgenstern in 1924, "at once became one of the world's outstanding publications in Jewish scholarship. " Morgenstern's approach to studying Bible was originally influenced by Wellhausen, but as he matured, he made his own path, examining economic, social, and political factors, as opposed to literary ones, when exploring sources and history.
