Chief Rabbi Justus Tal (1881-1954) was "From 1918 until the outbreak of World War II...Chief Rabbi of Utrecht. During the war he was hidden from the Nazis by a Protestant clergyman. Afterwards, he assumed the post in Amsterdam and was elected president of the Dutch Conference of Chief Rabbis" (JTA, 1954).
