Copy belonging to the only child and son-in-law of Leo Baeck, Ruth (Baeck) and Hermann Berlak, with “Berlak” penned on the endpaper. Second printing, for the Liberalen Synagogue; our copy, bound in later red cloth with beautiful gilt lettering on cover and fine paper used for endpages. Hagada for the Seder Evenings, by Hermann Falkenberg, founder of a liberal synagogue on Berlin’s Schoenhauser Allee, died in 1936. His wife, Bertha Falkenberg, was a pioneer for the rights of Jewish women in the pre-war years. A longtime president of the Berlin Jewish Women’s League, she fought for the voting rights of women as synagogue members. A plaque dedicated to the Falkenberg’s was commemorated in 2003; affixed to the outer wall of 22 Lottumstrasse in former East Berlin, it marks the last address of the Falkenbergs. Yaari 2498.
