Oko, (1883–1944) , librarian at Hebrew Union College and expert on Spinoza. Our edition includes laid in, folded quarto sized leaf, taped into the hinge, a review of Husik’s work, “Medieval Jewish Philosophy”, written by David Neumark, originally printed in the American Jewish Chronicle. “Prof. David Neumark, Ph. D. And ‘Mr. ’ Husik” is a criticism of D. Neumark's review of I. Husik’s ‘A History of mediaeval Jewish philosophy’; written by Oko under a pseudonym, privately printed and distributed, befitting such a charged discussion, as the author states: Neumark’s “article does more than accuse Husik of dilettantism, plagiarism and charlatanry; it is mean-spirited and even malicious. Indeed, for unblushing ferocity, for delight in revenge, for bad manners, one will hardly find anything to equal to it in the history of American scholarship. ” (pg. 3) . Subjects: Polemics.
