A fictionalized account of the author’s experiences with the Steppe Division of the Ukrainian National Republic Army. Active in the later part of the Ukrainian Revolution, the UNR was a largely peasant based army fighting against Bolsheviks in Western Ukraine. Pestushko became a leading member of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, and wrote about the movement for Ukrainian Independence upon settling in the United States after World War II.
