The first state of the first edition, with the errata page at the end and published in New York instead of Cincinnati. The author states in his preface his intention of creating a non-sectarian reader suitable for Jewish youth, so that they may know their own history and spiritual accomplishments, and proclaims his book suitable as well for the non-Jewish student, as it is free from sectarianism.
