Title translates as “A Hebrew Grammar: An Instructive Guide to the Holy Language for Jewish Schools and Homes. ” Hertz was born in Rebrin, Czechoslovakia, (or Lastomir, Hungary) in 5617 [1847] and he studied for three years under Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer in Eisenstadt (or Berlin ) . He immigrated to America in 1884 and devoted the rest of his life to Jewish education. Hertz published poetry and linguistics and Biblical studies. He died in the Bronx in 1913. His son was Joseph H. Hertz, the chief rabbi of the British Empire and the editor of the "Hertz Chumash. " "An instructive guide to the Holy Language for Jewish Schools and Homes. Written in a most interesting and attractive style, with ample rules and explanations concerning Rashi script and the reading of unpunctuated Hebrew in English and Jewish-German.
