Title translates into English as, “Isaac Noah Mannheimer: His Life and Impact; a Contribution to the History of the Israelite Cultural Oragnization in Vienna in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century, bound with a selection of Political Speeches by Mannheimer. ” Mennheimer was a preacher whose “success was due in great measure to his oratorical gifts… His German translation of the prayerbook and of the fast-day prayers, and his arrangement of the fast-day liturgy, are of permanent importance for… many communities. ” (Wikipedia, 2016) SUBJECT(S) : Mannheimer, I. N. This copy is inscribed by Rabbi Rosenmann to Hirsch Jakob Zimmels in 1930. Zimmels “was a rabbi and historian of Judaism. He obtained a PhD from the University of Vienna (where Rosenmann was Rabbi) in 1926, and was ordained there the following year. In 1939, he fled to London after the Nazi Anschluss. He was interned by the British government in a camp in Australia between 1940 and 1942, after which he returned to London, and was appointed a lecturer in Bible, Talmud and Jewish history at Jews' College, London. In 1961 he became director of studies at that institution, and was appointed principal in 1964, exercising that role until 1969.
