Title translates into English as, “A History of the Jews in Rome From Olden Times to the Present. ” This is Rabbi Joseph Strauss’ copy with his bookplate. Strauss (1845-1922) was an influential British Zionist and Rabbi in the late 19th century. He was one of the first Reform Rabbis in England. “Berliner… was a German theologian and historian… (His) edition of Rashi's commentary to the Pentateuch (1866) first made him known as a scholar; he added to his reputation by various historical works…” (Wikipedia, 2016) SUBJECT(S) : Jews -- Rome.
