8vo. Period Boards with name and publisher engraved on spine. 54 pages ; 24 cm. In French. Title translates into English as, “Francine’s Muff. ” Includes 12 illustrations by Henri Boutet. A beautiful copy of Murger’s short story which describes a tragic love affair between a Francine, a seamstress, and a sculptor named Jacques. Murger (1822-1861) published “Scènes De La Vie De Bohème” in 1851 which served as the inspiration for Puccini’s massively popular opera “La Bohème. ” Illustrated by “Henri Boutet (1851-1919) , ‘le Petit Maître au corset, ’ … a French Belle Époque artist whose work focused on the genre ‘La Parisienne. ’” OCLC lists just 2 copies worldwide of this edition (UC Riverside, BCU DORIGNY) , including none in France, only one in the US and none on the East Coast.
