Title translates to “Twelve Songs. ” Vertinsky (1889 - 1957) was a Russian and Soviet artist, poet, singer, composer, cabaret artist and actor of Ukrainian origin who exerted seminal influence on the Russian tradition of artistic singing. He toured extensively throughout Russia and the USSR and appeared in many Russian films. His legacy includes the Stalin Prize and a Soviet astronomer even named a small planet after him.
