It is important not only as a literary work but also for its detailed account of the inside workings of Jewish resistance against the Nazis in Warsaw. ” (Encyclopedia of Holocaust Literature; pg. 25) . Borzykowski was a member of the Jewish Fighting Organization in Warsaw, and took part in both the Ghetto uprising and the later Warsaw uprising; he emigrated to Israel in 1949, where he died in 1959.
