DRAY NAYE SKITSEN [BUT THIS COPY INCLUDING ONLY “A SHTIME FUN DER VAYTEN”]. [TRI OCHERKA] דריי נייע סקיצען:א שטימע פון דער ווייטען

Vilna [Lithuania; Vilnius]: Vitve un gebrider Rom, 1906. Item #41993

1st Yiddish Edition. Disbound, with title page present; Original front wrapper was likely an identical imprint of the title page on paper, 12mo, 24 pages [of 45 published, but complete for the first sketch, “A shtime fun der Vayten”] 18 cm. In Yiddish. Title translates as: “Three New Sketches…[Including Here Only] A voice from afar.” The full work of 45 pages would include: [1]. A shtime fun der Vayten -- [2]. Di Soldaten -- [3]. Der Flizof; however, only the first 24 pages are present here, complete for only the first sketch, the others are missing. Originally published in Russian as “Tri ocherka.” SUBJECT(S): Short stories, Russian. OCLC: 1011192467, with OCLC listing only a single hard copy anywhere worldwide (NYBC). Strangely, the one other listing on OCLC for this title, a microform held by YIVO (OCLC: 1041123460), is also for only the first 24 pages, perhaps this very copy. An exceedingly rare 1st Yiddish edition of a leading Russian author with wear at spine where previously sewn into larger binding, lacking the second two stories, and priced accordingly. (YID-42-29-L’+).
