From 1922 until sometime after 1937, the high proportion of Jews in the population of the rather small Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic actually made Yiddish one of the republic’s official languages, and the republic’s official seal even had the illustrious slogan adapted from Marx and Engels’s Communist Manifesto in Yiddish alongside Russian and Belorussian.
