”Glick was born in 1852 in Patsunel, a village in Kovno Province. He received a traditional education and was trained as a shohet. Unsatisfied with this profession, he tried his hand at commerce and then moved to Boguslav, Kiev District. He taught Hebrew, Bible and rabbinic literature, opened a library and traded in precious stones. In 1887 he immigrated to Pittsburgh, which was already home to a large Lithuanian community.
Initially a peddler, teacher and tutor, Glick began supplementing his income in 1894 by becoming a ticket agent for trans-Atlantic ocean liners. He eventually found his true vocation as a pioneer of the Yiddish press in Pittsburgh, publishing Volksfreund, the first work with Hebrew characters in the city (Freimann, 59; Rosenfeld #1003), and Die Yiddishe Post….
Glick enjoyed a monopoly on Hebrew and Yiddish printing in Pittsburgh until his death in 1922. He was a vocal proponent of religious Zionism” (Goldman-Kinsberg, p. 395).SUBJECT(S): Yiddish wit and humor. OCLC: 42036441.
