Published at a time of great anxiety for all who had Jewish family in Poland, this book clearly celebrates a successful landsmanshaft and its current leaders and members. But it is certainly also a focal point for rallying support to assist more family members and other immigrants from the old country who need to be brought to America for safety.
Amshinov is a small town in Poland, about 30 miles southwest of Warsaw, by the name of Mszczonow was known to its Jewish residents by its easier-to-pronounce Yiddish name, Amshinov.
“The town possessed a vibrant Jewish community, and it was once the center of the Hasidic Amshinov dynasty (Mszczonów being pronounced as "Amshinov" in Yiddish.) According to the 1921 census, the town had a population of 5,014, of which 80.1% declared Polish nationality and 19.7% declared Jewish nationality.
During the invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, the town was invaded by Nazi Germany….In late 1940, about 2,000 Jews were concentrated in a ghetto that was set up in the town, from which they were marched to Zyrardów in February 1941.
