“A periodic report from the Cuban Refugee Center-Freedom Tower, Miami, Florida; US Department of Health, Education and Welfare; Social and Rehabilitation Service.”
The Freedom Tower at 600 Biscayne Blvd in downtown Miami served as the federal Cuban Refugee Center (known as El Refugio) from 1962 to 1974. Often called the "Ellis Island of the South," it processed hundreds of thousands of exiles fleeing Fidel Castro's regime by providing medical care, financial aid, and resettlement services (US Park Service).
